ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights scholars’ findings on male violence against women while also discussing cases that have reached the mainstream news. It addresses research on sexual violence in intimate partnerships; violence perpetrated against younger women in dating relationships; the use of technology to perpetrate violence; and the growing recognition of the pervasiveness of sexual assault and sexual harassment committed by men in positions of power. Sexual violence in intimate partnerships is certainly a serious problem that is often overlooked by members of society. The term coercive control is increasingly being used to refer to violence that is intended to control or manipulate another person. Research has explored the experiences of adolescents and young adults with the perpetration of domestic violence through technology. Indeed, there is a growing body of research documenting the emotional, physical, and sexual violence commonly experienced by adolescents and young adults.
