ABSTRACT

This chapter explores a group of students' reflective experiences on fully participating in a Photovoice project as research-based learning. It raises the value of involving students in Photovoice research beyond the data collection and analysis stages. The chapter also raises some crucial issues around the value of Photovoice as a participatory action research method for young people through students' reflections on their participation in a research project. It outlines the students' reflections on engaging in a Photovoice project. The chapter foregrounds the impact of Photovoice research at this level, as university students reflect on their engagement as researchers and knowledge producers. Involving young people in Photovoice projects in their communities has been found to be empowering on many different levels. Key in Photovoice research is the understanding that the method has the potential for advocacy, which can be instrumental in youth activism and transformation for socially just ends.
