ABSTRACT

Co-counselling is an agreement between two people to take it in turn to listen to each other. The younger students enjoy having the student helpers come to their tutor groups each week. Many stand in circles holding hands, telling "news and goods" and appreciating one another and themselves. The workshop had an influence and other schools in Stafford are working on developing anti-bullying strategies which involve students as tutor group leaders and peer helpers. Student helpers have been to every year assembly to tell them about the service. Photographs of the student helpers are displayed in every classroom. At the heart of the training is the belief that Re-evaluation Counselling is a process that can be learned by anyone. Students learn how to re-discover their natural ability to give and get good attention from one another through basic listening skills.
