ABSTRACT
This chapter describes a telecollaborative project which prompted American study abroad returnees to use asynchronous and synchronous computer-mediated communication (CMC) to exchange cultural perspectives with L1 speakers of Spanish in Spain. It provides a detailed description of the project, and describes the institutional context where the project was set up. The chapter outlines the digital tools and tasks. It focuses on an investigation of the program that was offered in the spring of 2015. The chapter also describes the participants, the data-collection procedures, and modes of analysis. The survey findings and the analysis of the online data generated during the course provided valuable insight into how L2 educators can implement online exchange projects to expand and continue to develop the intercultural communicative competence (ICC) of study abroad returnees. The chapter illustrates the use of online intercultural exchange in conjunction with Web 2.0 technologies offers promise for study abroad educators and students.
