ABSTRACT

In 2010 the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology in Boston offered the first doctoral-level course in educational therapy, an elective for students seeking the credential of doctor of psychology in school psychology, with Jane Adelizzi as the instructor. Graduate level training in educational therapy addresses the interpretation of cognitive testing and neuropsychological instruments. Experienced teachers who love their profession and yearn to work one to one with students may find educational therapy to be a solution for their retirement years, and younger teachers may find this a valid route to pursue for part time work that allows them to specialize in unique populations. Social workers and counselors, who work with populations who face struggles with learning and functioning, may find educational therapy courses and workshops a stimulus to their practice, broadening their understanding of individuals who benefit from a treatment plan and alliance that address these issues.
