ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the cross-cultural validity of the Schwartz Value Scale (SVS) circumplex structure. Value development and value fulfillment affect the ways individuals adapt to various life roles. The List of Values (LOV) consists of nine values: a sense of belonging, excitement, warm relationships with others, self-fulfillment, being well-respected, fun and enjoyment in life, security, self-respect, and a sense of accomplishment. Internal values reflect the belief that people can fulfill their values by themselves and include self-fulfilling, a sense of accomplishment, and self-respect. The survey questionnaire, which included the LOV and the SVS, was translated to local languages and then back-translated to English by bilingual speakers in each country. The LOV is simpler and shorter to administer, and it provides an easier task for the researchers and respondents as it includes only ten items in contrast to the 57 items of the SVS.
