ABSTRACT

The aim of Changing Shape of Practice (CSoP) is to examine why and how different practices incorporate explicit research into their work and their business models, and what this research entails in terms of themes and modes of inquiry. Design research has become increasingly important within the international research landscape as a research mode in itself that links academic and creative contexts. Many research approaches have developed with their base in design practices, processes and issues that closely link knowledge production to the world of design and architecture. During many publications addressed the developments in design research more broadly, some of which offer comprehensive examination of the specificities of design research simultaneously as they acknowledge the pluralistic nature of the field and the wide range of conceptual, methodological, technological and theoretical approaches and positions that exist within contemporary research in various design-related disciplines and practices.
