ABSTRACT

From the urgencies seen in contemporary societies and urban situations, it is obvious that it is time to begin thinking about cities in completely new ways. How to pursue collective aspirations instead of cultivating individual dreams is just one of the questions that feed the visionary mind. There is also a loss of differentiation in architecture and the building sector, partly due to the global architecture market, involving a greater communication and sharing of images, leading to much more similarity, much more copy-paste architecture, and less classical uniqueness between architects. Architects also need to train and develop capacities for argumentation and to engage in more fundamental research. Argumentation is defined as reaching conclusions through systematic, logical reasoning and is concerned with the reason or the explanation for a proposal. Fundamental architectural research is research that is conducted through or by design, architectural means or imagery.
