ABSTRACT
“I want to describe the many people who are directly involved in business,” says Ikko Shimizu, pioneer of the industry novel (kigyō shōsetsu), a sub-genre of the Japanese business novel (keizai shōsetsu). As the name suggests, industry novels pertain more specifically to industries than do business novels, which cover a broader spectrum of socioeconomic issues.
