ABSTRACT

Remote though the Indian subcontinent may have appeared to be from the Iron Curtain across Europe, the countries of South Asia, the Republic of India most prominent among them, have been profoundly affected by the end of the Cold War and much has altered there in the last few years. India is now a great power, in regional terms at least. More than that, it is nearing the point at which it will have to be esteemed as a great power in global terms.
