Security in the South Pacific Region

There is a necessary prologue to assessing security in the South Pacific, a generic label that embraces some entities found north of the equator. The region’s countries lie in an immense maritime environment. They are far removed from the world center of population and power. They are not astride the Pacific’s principal lines of transport and communication. Individually, they comprise numerous and often scattered islands.
