ABSTRACT
It is indeed time to start thinking about the prospects of moving "beyond the economic miracle" for Taiwan's future development during the decade of the 1990s. Despite the reality, Taiwan's "economic miracle" still remains debatable and such impressive economic achievement is not without great human costs. The recent changes in the political and social spheres have drawn even greater attention from analysts both within Taiwan and overseas.
