ABSTRACT

Social security is a major factor in China's policy of separation of cities and rural areas, for which reason we deem it an important topic in the study of rural urbanization. Rural township enterprises are the motive force and pillar of rural urbanization; in looking into social security in township enterprises, we discovered that, in the Pearl River Delta, such enterprises are closely integrated with the communities in which they are located and that the social security systems of the two are actually one. To study the social security system in township enterprises, therefore, we must first study the system in the township communities. This can be said to be a characteristic of Chinese rural urbanization.
