ABSTRACT

“Evidence-Based Interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder” begins with a discussion of the movement toward evidence-based practices, including those with which we try to improve outcomes for youth with ASD. Two national reviews of the evidence are highlighted, and the findings of those reviews are used to deepen readers’ understanding of the range of choices available when selecting an intervention. Twenty-seven evidence-based procedures are grouped according to the common school-based needs for which they can be used, and the age ranges, specific student needs, and core elements of each are noted. The chapter concludes with a discussion of implementation science, and how consultation can be considered an implementation practice, through which to facilitate the translation of evidence-based interventions into school settings.
