ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the mobile connectivity practices and experiences of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled and navigating in an online learning degree program. Research relating to connectivity, navigation, and experiences in mobile learning included a study by J. Gikas and M. Grant that indicated that constant connectivity played an important role in the success of using mobile devices for student learning. Themes of the advantages included "accessing information quickly, constant connectivity, variety in ways to learn, and situated learning". The main themes that emerged from the data in regards to situations that warrant remote accessibility to learning platforms, course content, and communication in an online learning environment included work-related responsibilities, family emergencies, weather issues, power outages, and traveling. The motivation of researchers to respond to and build upon the work of other researchers opens new insights into the rapidly changing world of technology.
