ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the knitters to their immediate wild space as well as the ways the area and its inhabitants are changing as the climate warms. The knitting group was initially set up in 2013 and funded by the project as a way to bring people together to knit draught excluders for doors. The group has done a number of other collective projects including knitting blankets for the elderly, hats to raise money for a homeless charity and poppies for Remembrance Day. In order to set the scene, the chapter describes the set up of the group and the project before moving on to the theoretical analysis of its making practices. They react to the creatures, turn them over, peer at them through varifocal lenses and hold them at arms' length to get an idea of them at a distance.
