Introduction

Chapter One introduces the premise of the book – situating it within the academic prison methods context, and highlighting the importance of considering the methodological issues and challenges of prison research. The chapter explains how the book will progress, as well as explaining the need to draw on, and defer to, the experiences, challenges and reflections of other prisons researchers when trying to navigate the prison research process.
