Response to Sudden Deaths

School psychologists are increasingly placed into a first responder role when there is a teacher or student death. Unfortunately, practitioners often place training in crisis prevention/intervention at the end of their priority list. This narrative offers a school psychologist’s reflections on a long, challenging career of school crisis response, with observations for current and future practice.
