ABSTRACT
In Chapter 2 we define big data and identify well-known sources such as news feeds, search histories, social media (e.g. Twitter) and consider their potential to augment traditional property data sources. Current trends in accumulation and information technology (IT) architectures for storage (e.g., Hadoop) are discussed, as is the emergence of open source solution providers and analytic approaches (e.g., data visualization, in-memory analytics, cognitive computing).
