ABSTRACT
Chapter 3 begins by discussing the importance of understanding the rigor that is required of the research project and prioritizing familiarity with the data. It then moves into a discussion of the basic tools that are typically used for analyzing real estate data such as Microsoft Excel and Argus. Larger software providers such as Stata, SAS, IBM SPSS, Minitab, Matlab, and ArcGIS are presented and followed by a discussion of open source players such as R, Python, Scala, Spark, and QGIS. Database systems such as Microsoft Access, SQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, PostGres, and other open source options conclude the chapter.
