ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the in-depth investigation of a single longitudinal phenomenon to examine the consequences of, and adaptations to, political interference from the municipal government led by former mayor Mrs. Shu Xiaoqin, utilizing the Grounded Theory Methodology with data collection conducted through in-depth interviews within the industry. Analysis through the Grounded Theory framework indicates that misleading policies take place in China and around the world, with the typical top-down bureaucratic approach occurring in the Jingdezhen porcelain industry. Geoeconomic relations within China and across borders have impacted this industry. In history, the Jingdezhen porcelain cluster is a significant contributor to the marine and land Silk Road since the Tang Dynasty. The size of the industry, the quality standards it achieved and the duration of its history make the Jingdezhen porcelain industry unique. Studies searching for the 'gene' of resilience can be broken down into several social sciences: history, sociology, archaeology, anthropology, arts, material studies, antiques, ceramic production, and business.
