ABSTRACT

Successful school psychology interns are active planners and organizers of the internship experience. This chapter describes how interns can maximize the culminating experience and how internship and university sites can best support interns in this process. The chapter focuses on various proactive behaviors interns can take from the earliest days of internship, such as being thoughtful contributors to the development of an internship plan and openly discussing any concerns with site and/or university supervisors. Other topics include strategies for networking, identifying opportunities available at the internship site, balancing one’s own needs and systemic needs, and the importance of stepping out of one’s comfort zone to promote professional growth.
