ABSTRACT

Global climate change is happening and an overwhelming majority of the scientific community consider the risk of climate change real and severe. The knowledge summary in Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on climate change (IPCC, 2014a), provided new evidence of the reality of climate change, on the basis of many independent analyses from observations of the climate system, paleoclimate archives, theoretical studies of climate processes and simulations using climate models. This chapter begins with an overview on causes and consequences of global warming; since still nowadays many "alternative" theses find room in the debate on climate change, and analyses the main argument proposed by climate denial. It presents the main solutions proposed to manage and minimize the problem. The chapter discusses three aspects of global climate change issue, more and more important in the outstanding increase of scientific knowledge of the climate systems characterizing the last two decades.
