ABSTRACT

Illegal movement of people across international borders and the invisible presence of illegal migrants in various megacities' economic activities largely depend on economic globalisation, war, destitution and a state's capacity to rule its international borders. The India-Bangladesh border, the fifth longest land border of the world, is also considered to be one of the most dangerous borders of the world. Bilateral migration statistics between India and Bangladesh offer fascinating evidence. It is reported that 500,000 Indians illegally work in Bangladesh, while India claims that annually 25,0001 Bangladeshis enter India with tourist visas who never return. Illegal Bangladeshis in India have long been a concern among Indian politicians and academia. Illegal actors and their networks have received diverse theoretical attentions in social science literature. Scholars consider the oppositional aspects of legal and illegal or/and often focus on how legal economies can fight against illegal economies to stop trafficking.
