ABSTRACT

For medical applications, practical and sensitive diagnostic techniques, capable of simultaneously detecting the presence of several biomarkers (i.e., multiplex detection) associated with a specific disease, are highly desirable. Nucleic acid biomarkers, such as DNA, mRNA, and microRNA, have long been considered valuable diagnostic indicators to monitor the presence and progression of various diseases. Much effort has been devoted to developing alternative detection strategies for nucleic acid biomarkers to overcome challenging analytical aspects in the laboratory.
