ABSTRACT
Gold nanoparticles are readily modified through gold–thiol bonds, providing an easy way to functionalize the gold surface with targeting moieties. By combining SERS tags with some sort of therapeutic modality, a theranostic nanoparticle construct can be created, allowing for specific detection of a target by SERS detection, followed by treatment using the added form of therapy.
