ABSTRACT

The stated aim of India’s foreign policy derives from the national priority of rapid, sustained and inclusive growth and development. Through its foreign policy, India attempts to secure an external engagement that ensures the optimisation of its economic forces and fosters an enabling environment for the flow of capital, goods, resources, and technology. It is therefore useful to examine the extent to which foreign policy has aided the process of economic growth. India’s recent shift towards upgrading bilateral relations to strategic partnerships can be studied in this regard to quantify the benefits to its development and identify successes.
