ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents the ways in which English language provision in Hong Kong's universities has become particularly central to students' learning experiences with the implementation of the new four-year university curriculum in 2012. It demonstrates how the English language in today's India plays a significant role in the domains of education, administration, judiciary, industry, and business. The book presents a historical overview and some recent trends of English language teaching (ELT) in Japanese higher education. It reports on the status quo of tertiary English education in Korea by focusing on the general trends in college English programs as well as the specific needs of Korean English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. The book provides an overview of ELT policies and practices in Singapore, where English is used as the official medium of instruction throughout the education system.
