ABSTRACT

Over the past twenty-five years more than 200 UK feature films have been made with the financial support of the BBC through its semi-autonomous filmmaking arm BBC Films. This “Contribution to British Film” was recognised by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in 2015, two years after Film4 (Channel 4 Television’s equivalent) received the award in that category. Yet despite industry recognition and the breadth of its output including My Summer of Love (2004), Fish Tank (2009) and StreetDance 3D (2010), public awareness of the unit’s role as a cornerstone of the British film industry remains limited.
