ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book brings together scholarship on the theme of language and globalization, by situating language at the heart of globalization, human subjectivity at the heart of objectivity, and the qualities of being and belonging to a specific time and space at the heart of truth. It addresses how does language interact with its surrounding social variables (linguistic, educational, social-cultural, political, economic, or ideological) in the backdrop of the increasingly globalized world of the 21st century. The book also addresses what are the implications (both positive and negative) of such interactions upon world languages, cultures and peoples around the world. In this book, the contributors take traditional approach to tell the readers about their views on language and globalization.
