ABSTRACT

Sandra, Alba, and I settle into the small business center in the Quality Inn San Francisco in Chihuahua, Mexico. We are bundled in our coats since the January cold and wind have penetrated the unheated lobby area of the hotel. This small room feels warmer as we meet to wrap up the research we have been conducting and to make plans on where to go from here. For the past four years, I have been teaching virtual and face-to-face classes for the Instituto de Pedagogía Crítica (IPEC) in Chihuahua, where Sandra is the Associate Director for Academics and Alba is a Ph.D. candidate who is working on her dissertation, the only uncompleted aspect of her degree. Through the years, we have become close friends as well as colleagues.
