ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the relationship between ministry, movement and the complex spiritual spaces through which ministers move. Increasingly, the currents of globalisation bring ministers from distant parts of the planet back 'home' to serve the British 'Mother Church'. The ministers who migrate to Britain – from Australia to Zimbabwe and everywhere in between – bring with them the versions of Methodism carried to their shores by well-meaning missionaries of centuries past. The circuit is the standard administrative and missional unit – normally a group of churches served by a team of ministers. When Methodist ministers are ordained, they are 'received into Full Connexion.' Ordinary Methodists would hardly expect their ministers to demonstrate competency in horseriding, and no one would bother to count the number of sermons delivered. In contrast, Methodism is a movement that flings itself across a far wider geography, with ordained ministers as the vanguard.
