YOUNG WOMEN'S INSTITUTE UNION AND CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.-Ameeting ot this institution, very numerously attended, was held lately at St. James's Hall, under the presidency of the Earl of Shaftesbury. The society was originated for the purpose of establishing room!:! in different parts of London, which, under the name of institute!:!, will be open at all hours of the day to respectable young women of the humbler class, who "need a quiet resting place where they can have social intercourse and the help and advice of a friend, who resides on the spot, and where classes and social gatherings of various kinds can be held." About 40 such institutes have already been formed in various localities, including the City, Greenwich, Hackney, Hampstead, Holloway, Kensington, Lambeth, Limehouse, Southwark, Victoria Park, White chapel, and other populous districts. The benefits of the homes thus provided for those who would otherwise be almost entirely destitute of the advantages included in the word "home" are enjoyed, especially by young women occupied during the day in different trades and workshops. 'l'he central institute is at 19A, Great Portland Street, Miss Weitbrecht being the Secretary.
