ABSTRACT
THE UNIVERSITY OF ST. ANDREWS. IF women have been too long debarred from the advantage and prestige which the possession of a University Degree confers on men, the time has at last gone by for withholding from them, merelY' on the ground of sex, tbis meed of honourable toil. The Universities of Cambl'idge, Oxford, and Edinburgh, are offering their Examinations and Certificates to women. The Universit.y of London has nobly resolved to grant its various academical distinctions and rewards (with certain special exceptions) to women equally with men, while the Univerflity of St. Andrew's, first in point of time, has already opened to them the gate of a Degree, and conferred its title of Literate of Arts upon six of the women candidates who entered themselves for examination last June.
