ABSTRACT

This is vacation time, so I have not seen her school, but find her inte11igent an,d interested in her work. She tells me she had 70 children last winter to teach without any assistant. I have introduced to her Mr. ·Wm. Ellis's progressive lessons, with which she is delighted, and says" they are just what the children need." I only hope she may be able to understand them thoroughly herself, and to use them for the children's good. Italy seems indeed to realize the need of such lessons, more than England does I the l~reater the pity in these days of social discOl'd and suspicion.
