In January 2014 Muslim feminist activist, journalist, and social media strategist K ü bra G ü m ü ş ay began a new series on her blog called “50 Thoughts.” These were initially intended for publication every Friday for a year, but as of this writing the series consists of twenty-three sporadically published entries; none have been added since late 2014. Written in English, German , or Turkish, the “thoughts” are typed on a typewriter to which she refers as her “Turkish typewriter” (a photo suggests an Olivetti) and digitally photographed for her blog-generally grainy, poorly lit photographs in which the typed words, often smudged, appear against a grayish, also often smudged, background. The disconcerting eff ect in the later months is that of a jumble of words, unbroken by other kinds of images, displayed via a website design intended to highlight visual content (see Figure 1 ).
