ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on concepts discussed in preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the interactions between human rights and conflict resolution in theory and in practice to uncover the potential interactions between these two areas. It addresses the specific dilemmas involved in including human rights in peace mediation processes. The book highlights the need to include critical perspectives that address power inequalities as a first and unequivocal step toward expanding human rights as a tool for emancipatory peaceful practices. It argues that incorporating human rights can potentially enhance the transformative potential of conflict resolution endeavors. The book traces the history of the United Nations' promotion of human rights within a conflict resolution context and evaluates the turn to rights within the "peace and security" discourse. It reveals the potential benefits of using feminist intersectional lenses to achieve a more just and inclusive peace.
