ABSTRACT

History demonstrates that achieving justice is a goal often seen as worth the sacrifice of life itself; and, that maintaining the complex diversity of the human race is a sacred mission. Now is not a hopeful time to be trying to protect the human mosaic from manmade violence. In recent years both government officials and civil society activists have consistently chosen either nonexistent or extremely weak or largely symbolic strategies and tactics with which to confront genocidal actors. The efforts of civil society organizations to variously attempt to stop genocide, rescue members of the targeted groups from attackers, and/or provide humanitarian support for those of the targeted populations deserve, even if succinct, examination. In the United States there was an angry and sustained public outcry against murderous treatment of the Armenians. Major relief efforts were also undertaken in an effort to save "the starving Armenians".
