ABSTRACT
During the 20th century the problematization of progressive modernity, which the issue of modern architectural heritage highlights only gained in urgency. The practices of modern architecture and heritage preservation both provided more and more powerful strategic responses to the emergent historical problem space that was created by modern temporality. Actually, I contend that over the years the fields of modern architecture and heritage preservation gradually stabilized into what I would like to call the apparatus of modernization.
