ABSTRACT

Art museums offer teachers an array of valuable resources with which to facilitate art education goals. These include slides, reproductions, written materials, and original works of art. A 16-item questionnaire was developed and pilot tested. Questions ranged from whether respondents used museum resources to demographic information regarding teaching experience and age. Twenty-five percent of elementary art specialists said they were involved in an art museum in some capacity. Art museums are invaluable resources for art education. Indeed, art museum resources can be critical to the kind and quality of instruction that elementary art specialists provide students. These specialists may need some assistance in learning about and using the art museum. With proper assistance and pertinent information provided by museum educators, teachers can initiate connections with museums that will allow them to enjoy fully the benefits that museums have to offer.
