ABSTRACT

WHAT do Palestinian and Israeli historical narratives have to do with peace between the two sides? Aren’t the issues those clear and tangible problems – settlements, borders, refugees, “right of return”, self-government, security, water, holy sites, etc. – which are invariably the stuff of every failed set of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations? Compared to this, aren’t Israeli and Palestinian “narratives” primarily of academic, or simply parochial, interest?
