ABSTRACT
GENERALLY speaking, holiness and holy places are considered factors in the limited possibility of political compromise in ethnic and national disputes. Holiness cannot be divided, and control by the “other” over a site considered to be holy creates a sense of totality that is likely to serve as a catalyst, intensifying the political dispute.
