ABSTRACT
Olga Tufnell always maintains that nothing in her life came about by planning or intent, that events developed as they did without any conscious effort on her part, and certainly there was little in her background or upbringing to foretell that she was to become both a pioneering spirit of archaeology in Palestine between the wars and by now one of the most distinguished and well-loved figures in that field.
