ABSTRACT

Art Hernandez never had any role models. He graduated from his undergraduate program with a dual focus on psychology and English and with teaching credentials, so he could work while he went on to pursues his Master's degree. He never imagined that he would become a college professor or a program evaluator. He was a mostly B student in his science and math courses but he could not see the connection between physics or calculus and being a physician. Although he wanted to teach high school psychology, no positions of that nature were available, so he got a job teaching English at an inner-city middle school. He recognized that he could make a difference in the world, affecting the aspiration and perspective of one person at a time, influencing dreams and providing the means of access through understanding.
