ABSTRACT

In early 2009, the American Anthropological Association (AAA) membership voted on revisions to the AAA's Code of Ethics, in response to a motion put forward at the business meeting of the AAA in 2007. Those revisions were specific to only a few sections of the code, and consisted of a very few sentences. In light of the specificity of those revisions, the Executive Board has determined that a more comprehensive review of the entire Code of Ethics is warranted. The Task Force began its work by disseminating a survey to assess members' perceptions of codes of ethics in general and solicit opinions about the AAA's code specifically, both about what the then code contained and what it was missing. During its three-year tenure, the Task Force examined a set of issues that have been salient in AAA member discussions over the past decade.
