ABSTRACT

PISA is pivotal for education policy in Poland. PISA 2000 and 2003 evaluated the country’s 1999 structural reform. Later, PISA results motivated the implementation of a new curriculum in 2008. The results of PISA and other studies suggest the reforms were successful. This goes against popular sentiment favoring the old system, which is exploited for political reasons. The interaction between PISA and politics in Poland tells us an interesting story about evidence-based policymaking in education.
