ABSTRACT

In this chapter I first reflect on the way I teach and coach gymnastics and how it has evolved as an approach that now reflects the features of Positive Pedagogy (Light and Harvey, 2015). I present two examples of my coaching that are focused on what I consider to be core concepts that are challenging for young gymnasts to develop a practical understanding of. These two concepts are (1) transference of body weight and balance using handstand as an example and (2) rotation over body parts, as highlighting the backward roll.
