ABSTRACT

The Chartered College has to forge a new path. Aware of the need for the school-led system to support teachers' continuous learning, the Department for Education has published a set of standards for professional development. Teachers who become members of the Chartered College of Teaching will be eligible to apply to join a Chartered Scholarship route through which colleagues will engage with others, including a mentor, about the impact of their teaching. The value of the Chartered College of Teaching will be to present a diverse range of informed opinion, underpinned by sound evidence rather than by ideological standpoint. The digital Knowledge Platform of the Chartered College of Teaching will be populated with thematic research studies alongside compelling examples of school-based practice. Membership of the Chartered College of Teaching will enable individuals in schools across the country to experience the collective courage achieved from an influential and powerful network.
