ABSTRACT

In “Coping with the consequences of ‘too many lawyers’: securing the place of

international graduate law students”, Carole Silver places the issue of supply and

demand in a global context by focusing on the role of international students in the pat-

terns of producers, in this case, US law schools. Recruiting increasing numbers of

international students may enable law schools to continue to finance their activities,

despite the decline in enrollment of US law students in JD programs. But growing

competition for international law students requires US law schools to reconsider

their approaches to educating international students. Drawing on survey and inter-

view research conducted with international law students and graduates, Silver high-

lights the need for US law schools to develop new approaches and attitudes

towards international students.
