ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the volume as a whole as well as a set of methodological questions that emerge from the chapters in the volume. These are: the definition of a historical period, the geographical locus of a history of philosophy, and the interconnection between whom we include as philosophers and our understanding of the nature of philosophy.
